Weekend brunch at Luna Park. Is the juice worth the squeeze? Over Labor Day weekend, we wanted to find out.
Luna Park is within walking distance for us, and I received an email that their brunch menu would be half-off if you greeted your server with “Happy Labor Day.” Secret handshakes aside, we had been their for Happy Hour before, and were up for checking out their brunch.
How did it stack up? Well, the first clue is on their Weekend Brunch Menu, which prominently features their alcohol. They offer bottom-less Mimosas or Sangria (either red or white)… but for $15. Sugar, alcohol, and a side of Advil, please?
Instead, we opted for the Two-for-One Bloody Marys. At the normal price of $14 they are pricey. The two for one deal made them a reasonable seven bucks. They were good — I liked the spice level — but pathetically garnished (one olive and a lime wedge?!). No salt on the rim. Nothing special.
Breakfast was similar. The list prices were high for what you received. At half price, we felt we got a fair deal. We both ended up getting the All-American Breakfast — two eggs, bacon, half of an applewood smoked chicken sausage, toast and potatoes. Everything was good, but nothing I would rave about.
As we left, we agreed it was a “solid” breakfast — right in the middle of the road — and at half price, we got a fair deal. At full price? I’d go elsewhere.
Oh, and the dish of old-school sugary cereal as freebie pre-brunch nosh? Wasn’t that already been done at Grub?
