#TGIF! Happy Hour at the lobby bar in the historic Culver Hotel? Yes, please!
You know the drill. The end of a long work week comes and you’re looking for a place to cool down and enjoy an adult beverage. We ran through the list of our usual places, but wanted to try someplace new. And we ended up at someplace old — at least by LA standards.
The historic Culver Hotel was built in 1924 and sits a stone’s throw from Sony Studios in Culver City. The area is very walkable and very popular. The Lobby Bar is pretty much as it sounds — a wide open lobby area dotted with tables and a bar just off the entrance. There is also patio seating available for a quieter experience. We got there right at 5pm, and had no trouble finding a table for two.
I thought it was slightly odd was that we had to place our drink and food order at the bar, rather than with a server. Not sure if that’s typical, or if they just happened to be understaffed that night.
Happy Hour at the bar runs daily from 4pm to 7pm. You heard right… daily. Good to know when you’re looking for deals on the weekends. They have a number of signature drinks for $6, house Chardonnay or Cab for $4, and beer (on tap or bottled) for $3. Score!
Joan had The Dirty Harry — their clever movie-themed name for what was really just a good dirty martini made with Krome vodka and house-marinated olives. I had a Wydmer Brothers IPA that was on tap.
They also have happy hour food specials. We sampled the tempura green beans, the deviled eggs, and the asian infused wings. All were very good, especially for the price.
They have a full menu, and have nightly live jazz beginning at 7:30pm.
Our verdict? We will be back.
