I love being able to walk a few blocks to hear great blues. Last night I did just that! I walked the 5 blocks from my house to Iva Lee’s, one of my favorite San Clemente establishments. After a delicious Creole inspired meal, I sat in the bar and listened to the Fremonts, modern purveyors of the 50’s and 60’s blues.
Iva Lee’s is a wonderful place to hear music. It’s small and intimate. You can almost reach out and touch the players. They offer a nice variety of wines and an amazingly dry martini.
The Fremonts have a driving, earthy sound that makes you want to get off your butt and dance. Lead singer, Mighty Joe Milsap calls on a number of different blues styles. With support from Kurt Kalker, Tony Tomlinson and Patrick Skog, they deliver gritty, soulful blues. Hear for yourself.

The Fremonts are a FANTASTIC blues band! It amazes me that such awesome talent can be seen in such an intimate setting. Iva Lee’s provides the perfect place to experience blues up-close and personal.
Yep, life in San Clemente is good.
I’ll just add that The Fremonts visit Iva Lee’s pretty regularly — I’ve seen them there before and I know they show up on their calendar 2-3x a month. Definitely worth checking out.
