Health in a Glass

November 16, 2011 By Joan Hester Leave a Comment

I am typically an egg white or oatmeal for breakfast kind of gal. That is until I found the BEST smoothie ever! Well to me anyway. I find it fills me and provides me with energy throughout the morning. My friend Laura Lee Bloor (Tenacious Lee) created the original recipe. I tweaked it a bit for my own tastes. See what you think!

High Energy Smoothie

1/2 cup Greek yogurt

1/2 cup almond milk

1/4 – 1/2  cup water

honey to taste

cinnamon

1/4 cup rolled oats

handful of Kale

handful of carrots

1/2 cup – 1 cup frozen blueberries (also good with strawberries and cherries)

1 T Bee Pollen

1 T ground flax seeds

1 scoop green superfood powder

1 – 2 0z aloe (gel or liquid)

Process in blender for a few minutes.

This combination will provide you with protein, complex carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and a TON of energy. Why bee pollen, flax seeds and aloe? Bee pollen has been shown to be able to rejuvenate the body, stimulate organs and glands and enhance vitality. Flax seeds are great for digestion and aloe will help you to better absorb the nutrients. Enjoy!

About Joan Hester

During weekdays, I am Director of Admission at an independent school in Los Angeles. On the weekends, I like to explore LA with Jeff. I've thru-hiked the John Muir Trail, summited all the tallest peaks in Southern California, and I'm searching for the perfect, fat-free, calorie-free chocolate croissant.
